| Grenada is a stunningly beautiful island, with, as the advertising says, a variety of accommodation types. However, the accommodation tends towards the 'upper' end of the market: . There are plenty of hotels and self-catering appartments, (nearly) all a stone's throw from a beach. Most have their own websites, and there is no point in listing them in Tip of the Month. But the cheap 'n cheerful end of the market seems a bit under-represented. There is nothing approaching a youth hostel. The budget-priced, unpretentious places are few and far between, and it is difficult to know what you are getting before you have committed yourself. |

Lazy Lagoon is one such. Its proprieter, Nigel Fleming, says it's for young people of any age. Nigel is usually not so much laid back as laid down: typically, in a hammock, and with a mobile phone. He is easygoing and genial, but the place is scrupulously clean. He lives on-site, keeping a watchful eye on the property, is safety-minded, and he has a clear policy on drugs (i.e. forget 'em.) A born Grenadian, he opened Lazy Lagoon two years ago, having lived in Canada for twenty years, and he has every intention of staying. He is assisted by Lunar and Nubie (both canine.) |

Cabins

|||||
L azy Lagoon consists of a single block of six wooden cabins, each with its door painted externally in its individual bright pastel colour. Inside, all rooms are painted off-white / pale pink. Each has a queen-sized bed with mosquito net, a fridge, a two-burner gas ring, a ceiling fan, and a place to hang clothes. Each unit has its own shower / WC.Outside, at the front, a wooden terrace runs the length of the units, with chairs and a table for each room. (Read, admire that view, meet the neighbours.) |
